Prevention and education on VIH - 2011

The project and the problem
Give information to the 3rd year of High School students who are between 12 and 15 years old, about the risks of being infected by HIV.

Face to face: through an educational program, to firstly facilitators who will carry the given information to these students; using printed materials such as paper sheets, handouts; audiovisual aids and group activities. Those students who had been given the workshops will be invited to play an active role in the online classrooms. Online: spread of the materials will be done online adapted from the physical, using digital promotion and difusion tools like: webpage, blog, forum, skype, social networks, among others, which make the multimediality, hipertextuality and interactivity possible. The soul of the effective digital communication.

Three (3) local clubs and District 4380 are involved: Rotary Club San Cristóbal, Rotary Club Táriba and Rotaryeclub4380.org

Due to the high incidence of HIV in Tachira state, among 4 or 5 cases are diagnosed every day. Only between 1987-2010, 2.735 people were diagnosed with HIV. 45% living with AIDS and the rest as Healthy AIDS Carrier. 60% of the registered cases, were detected in San Cristobal; the 3th position group of infected people were students.

Beneficiary of the project
Face to face: trough 4 groups of facilitators made by 2 people each one, in 3 schools we could reach to 4.000 students in 3 months aproximately. On line: 36.000 people are estimated to be beneficiated with the information.

The Project will report the following benefits

Face to face: they are going to multiply the information to their family and friends, they are expected to pass the information almost to 3 persons each; an average of 12.000 additional beneficiary. On line: when the information is recived, with the adoption of digital strategies people will learn how to use the software and hardware related. Trough the digital marketing while getting the information the online work become massive message.

Sustainability
A teacher by school will commit in the coordination of educated students through a Conscientious Club.
The information given on internet will remain in time.
Activities of the host and international partners in implementing the project
The host partners will promote, execute and supervise the project.
The international partners asses the Project, giving the own experiences in their countries, district, club; they will be able to share educational materials, application of new technologies of information and communication.
The Rotarians will study, work in Logistics and promote the information.
The external rotarians supervise via internet through skype and other similar tools; they can also contribute with e-conferences.

Aunado a las Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación (TIC) se incorpora el Club a las Redes Sociales Facebook y Twitter, además del desarrollo de su propio Blog. Gobernadores de distrito inauguran nuevo año rotario con Klinginsmith

Quince gobernadores de distrito entrantes celebraron el inicio del nuevo año rotario de 2010-2011 con el presidente de RI, Ray Klinginsmith, durante un evento sin ceremonial para celebrar su instalación en el cargo el 30 de junio en la Sede Central de RI ubicada en Evanston, Illinois, EE.UU. Lo que comenzó como una idea para una visita informal de los dirigentes de los Distritos 6420, 6440 y 6450 (Illinois) se transformó en una reunión a la que acudieron gobernadores de los estados de Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Mississippi y la nación africana de Lesotho. + Más Información

Nuevo plan para erradicar la polio

El 18 de junio, la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) y el UNICEF organizaron una reunión con Rotary International y otras entidades colaboradoras, en Ginebra, Suiza, a fin de lanzar el Plan Estratégico de la Iniciativa Mundial para la Erradicación de la Polio (IMEP) para 2010-2012.
El nuevo plan llega en un momento fundamental para la IMEP. En los principales países endémicos se están logrando avances históricos contra la enfermedad, especialmente en Nigeria, donde al 6 de julio se habían reportado únicamente tres casos en 2010, marcado descenso respecto a los 333 casos del mismo período en 2009. En la India se han notificado 22 casos, notable disminución respecto a los 107 casos. + Más Información

Toma de Posesión de Junta Directiva

El pasado 2 de julio en el salón de fiestas del Club Tenis se desarrolló toma de posesión de la nueva Junta Directiva durante el periodo comprendido entre el 01 de julio de 2010 y el 30 de junio de 2011, siguiendo el orden protocolar el nuevo Presidente Joaquín Cánovas hizo entrega de diplomas de reconocimiento a los socios honorarios. El encuentro fue amenizado por una extraordinaria interpretación del coro del Banco Sofitasa y un saxofonista ejecutante. El compartir deliciosos canapés y tertulia rotaria dieron inicio a esta nueva gestión. + Más Información
